SERVICES / SAP GEF + PLANT MAINTENANCE
Where your GIS ends and your work order begins — we build the bridge.
SAP Geographical Enablement Framework and Plant Maintenance, implemented by people who understand both sides of the integration. Three phases. Fixed scope. Your control.
The integration gap costs real money.
You've invested in Smallworld GNM. You've invested in SAP. The two systems still don't speak the same language — and the cost shows up in places nobody scoped for.
- Field productivity loss. Crews lose 30–60 minutes per work order reconciling location data between systems.
- Asset data drift. GIS asset IDs and SAP functional locations diverge over time, breaking maintenance histories and warranty tracking.
- Failed audits and compliance risk. Regulators (NERC, PHMSA, state PUCs) increasingly require auditable, geo-referenced asset records that match across systems of record.
- Stalled grid modernization. Capital programs depend on a single source of truth for network topology. When GIS and SAP disagree, project delivery slows.
- Generalist SI blind spots. Most SAP implementation partners treat the GIS side as an afterthought, then escalate when the integration fails UAT.
Built for operators who run both systems.
-
Electric, gas, and water utilities running Smallworld GNM and any version of SAP — ECC, S/4HANA, or IS-U.
-
Telecom and fiber operators using Smallworld PNI alongside SAP for asset and work management.
-
Utilities planning a S/4HANA migration that need the GIS workstream de-risked.
-
Operators with a stalled or underperforming GEF deployment that needs remediation.
Two work streams. One integration.
SAP Geographical Enablement Framework (GEF)
- GEF assessment and roadmap. A focused engagement to evaluate your current state, identify integration gaps between Smallworld GNM and SAP, and produce a prioritized implementation plan.
- GEF implementation. End-to-end configuration, Smallworld GNM connector development, spatial data services, and user experience integration inside SAP Fiori and SAP GUI.
- Bidirectional synchronization. Asset master data, functional locations, work locations, and network topology kept in sync between Smallworld GNM and SAP.
- Performance tuning. Optimization for large network datasets — the kind that break out-of-the-box GEF deployments.
SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) / EAM
- Functional location alignment. Mapping the SAP functional location hierarchy to the Smallworld GNM network model so they stay coherent over time.
- Geo-enabled work orders. Notifications and work orders carrying full spatial context, viewable on a map inside SAP, with one-click drill-through to the GIS.
- Linear asset management. Configuration for cables, pipelines, and fiber routes — assets that don't fit a point-based model.
- Mobile field integration. Connecting SAP mobile work order apps with Smallworld GNM map data for offline-capable field use.
Three phases. Fixed scope. Your control.
We map your current Smallworld GNM and SAP environments, document integration gaps, interview stakeholders across IT, operations, and field teams, and deliver a written roadmap with effort estimates, risk register, and recommended sequencing. You leave with a buyable plan — whether you continue with us or not.
We execute the roadmap in agile sprints with embedded knowledge transfer. Your team participates in design, development, and testing so you own the solution at the end — not us.
Tier 1, 2, and 3 support to keep the integration healthy as your business changes. Includes proactive monitoring, version upgrades, and continuous improvement.
Where we'll send you somewhere else.
- You're not running Smallworld GNM. This offering is purpose-built for Smallworld GNM environments. If you're on Esri or another GIS, talk to us anyway — we'll refer you to a partner who specializes in your stack.
- You want a generalist SI to run the whole SAP program. We're the GIS specialist on those programs, not the prime. We work alongside primes — and tell you in writing if we think they've underscoped the GIS workstream.
- The integration isn't worth fixing yet. Sometimes the assessment finds that the data foundation has to come first. We'll say so.
Common questions.
We're already mid-implementation with another SAP partner. Can you still help?
Yes. We frequently come in as the GIS specialist on a larger SI-led program. We make your prime SI look better by closing the one gap they don't have the depth to close.
Do we need to be on S/4HANA already?
No. We work with ECC, S/4HANA, and IS-U environments. If S/4HANA migration is on your roadmap, getting the GIS integration right first reduces migration risk significantly.
Start with the GEF assessment.
A 30-minute call to scope it. We'll tell you whether your environment is a candidate for full GEF implementation, a remediation, or something simpler. In writing. Before the contract.
